My name is Seth Hunter. I am Co-Owner of and a Strength, Conditioning, and Nutrition Coach at Resilience in Springfield, TN, my home town. Coaching was something I fell into when the carpet got ripped from under me. Growing up, I always disdained the norm. I despised school, I hated that everyone was forced to learn the same way at the same pace, and I had a general resistance to anything organized, even sports. But, like a good boy, I abided, followed the rules, and scraped by in school with a C average. In my down time I would escape into the woods and pretend I was the strongest, fastest person alive, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. In reality, I was a scrawny nerd who hid in fear from the world in video games.

My father passed away when I was 7 and I didn’t really have anyone around to teach me how to be a man. So I latched on to a cousin of mine who I looked up to. It was around 5th grade for me when he took off to the marines and was going through boot camp. He would write me letters describing the workouts they would do and I would do my best to emulate them. I woke up at 4 every day, ran a mile, did 100 pushups, 200 crunches, curls with my pink dumbbells I borrowed from my Mom. It was then I realized, I liked getting strong. Fast forward to my last day in high school, panicked when my mom told me I had to go to college like it or not. I had no clue what I wanted to be, I didn’t even know HOW to be, let alone who to be. The only thing I knew was weightlifting and video games. So I drank my way through college and majored in talking to girls. I did this song and dance for 3 years until one day I woke up and realized I wasn’t who I wanted to be. I realized life was moving around me, and fast, I had some growing up and soul searching to do.

This is when I started working. I tore the bookstore apart and started studying psychology, spirituality, biographies of the greats I looked up to, and read every self help book under the sun. I  reinvented myself and built myself a new identity, I didn’t want to become a slave to my past. I dabbled in open mic stand up, played music, even got a big boy job as an electrician until my depression brought me to the ground. The only thing that stayed consistent with me was my religious commitment to the weight room. This is when I realized, that was what I was supposed to do. It was what I HAD to do, I wasn’t good at anything else.

So in 2012, I got my ACSM certification and started training at the YMCA in Mount Juliet just outside of Nashville. I served at Olive Garden on the side to get the bills paid. My Path was clear to me now, so I created my own curriculum. I rigorously started studying everything that made people better. My focus changed from self help to how can I help others?
Once fate grabbed ahold of me, it brought me back to Springfield to train at a gym with my good friend Zack Kresse, who I now co-own the gym with. Him and I lifted together and we went through a great many phases. We did crossfit, gymnastics, bodybuilding, yoga, strongman, pretty much whatever excited us at that time.

Now I am a National Level Lightweight Strongman Competitor. I am certified an ACSM(American College of Sports Medicine), USAW Level 1(United States of America Weightlifting), FMS Level 1(Functional Movement Screening), Mobility WOD through Kelly Starrett, and have a Nutrition Certification through Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint. We have all people of all kinds knocking at our door and my job is to leave them better than I found them.

My Mission is to help people reinvent themselves like I did. I want people to understand they don’t have to be a slave to circumstance and they have the power to change whatever they want about themselves at any time. In a world where we are constantly told what to do, where to go, who to listen to, and who to rely on, we are forgetting to rely on ourselves and listen to our own inner guidance. When I started training, I thought on a surface level I was just going to help people look better come beach season. What I learned was, people don’t need aesthetics, they need to feel empowered! They need confidence in themselves! They need to know that they are way stronger than their beliefs give them credit for. Therefore, my goal is to help give people the tools, discipline, and motivation to help them reshape themselves at a physical, mental, and emotional level, and to help them feel more confident about taking responsibility for their own health.
